MEETING AT TURAKINA

The members of the Turakina Women’s Institute held their fhonthly meeting on April 20 at St. Andrew’s Hall. Miss Clarke presided over a representative attendance of members and opened the meeting with the “Ode to Friendship” and Creed. Apologies were received from several members whom the bad weather had prevented from attending. Five new members were enrolled. Invitations were received from Fordell, Porewa and Hunterville Institutes to attend their birthday functions. A letter was received from the district nurse in Marton soliciting help. — The matter was held over for the present. For a service held in the Public Hall on Anzac Day, institute members provided afternoon tea. Several Women’s Division members attended the meeting and Mrs. Harris, president of the W.D., gave a long and interesting account of her travels in central Europe, covering over 4000 miles. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Harris. The afternoon concluded with the National Anthem, followed by a social cup of tea. The afternoon’s competitions resulted as follows: Best bloom, Mrs. McLaughlan 1, Mrs. Governlock 2 and 3; home-made soap, Mrs. Alex Glasgow 1, Mrs. Major 2, Miss Stone 3. Hostesses for the next meeting are the following: Mesdames Brown, Black and Bishop.
