UTIKI WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

The Utiku Women's Institute held its annual meeting on March 15th. Mrs. Pragnall took the chair ’and gave the motto. “If you cannot have the best, make the best of what you have.” Mrs. Pragnal welcomed Mrs. Peirman and Mrs Brewer as scrutiners. also Miss Howard, Mrs. Mollier and Mrs. Eades as visitors. Mrs. G. M. Transom read the annual report, which was adopted. Mrs. Del low gave a talk on the coming exhibition, which was very enlightening. Voting on the new committee resulted in the following being elected: Mrs. Arnot, Miss Belk. Mesdames Becker. Barnett. Dellow, E. C. Gibbs, Hibberd, Kendall, Prime, Pragnal, G. M. Transom, C. H. Transom. Shoulder sprays were presented to the retiring president, Mrs. Pragnal, and the secretary, Mrs. G. M. Transom, to the scrutineers, Mrs. Pierman and Mrs. Brewer and to Mrs. P. Kerins, to whom they said good-bye as she is leaving the district. Mr. O'Connor was appointed auditor for the coming year. Mrs. R. J. Transom gave a demonstration on refooting socks the Dutch way, which was very helpful. Mrs. Brewer gave a clever recitation, “The Scullery Maid.” The trophy for the year’s competitions was won byMrs. C. H. Transom 1, Mrs. Pragnal 2, Mrs. Prime 3. Trophy for premier flower, Mrs Prime. Competitions for March: Plum jam, Mrs. C. H. Transom 1. Mrs. Prime 2, Miss E. Transom 3. Decorated plate, Mrs. Becker 1, Mrs. Prime 2, Mrs. G. M. Transom 3. Premier flower, Mrs. R. J. Gibbs. Members are asked to bring potatoes along to the April meeting. The hostesses will be the new committee. Demonstration, Lace bark. Competitions: Piklets and roll call.
