WAIMARINO SHOW

MEETING OF COMMITTEE FIRST SINCE THE SHOW (Own Correspondent.) RAETIHI, March 21. The first meeting ot the committee of the Waimarino A.P.H. and I. Association since the annual show last month was presided over by Mr. Albert Scarrow. The secretary (Mr. J. A. Mcßride) presented a report on the association’s financial position after the success of the 1939 fixture. All the prize money, totalling 1185, had been paid, leaving a balance of 1293 to meet expenses in connection with the running of the annual show. Accounts received amounted to £197 12s 8d and it was estimated that this total would probably reach £203, leaving a credit balance of some £9O. The secretary estimated that further receipts amounting to £37 would come in before the end of the association's financial year on 31st inst., so that the association would complete its financial operations for the year with a cash credit balance of £127. This was a most satisfactory achievement, particularly in view of the fact that £4O had already been paid for the enclosing of the ring with wire mesh netting and this was more in the nature of a capital charge. The anticipated profit of £127 would, however, be spent in the necessary work of ploughing, levelling and resowing of the showgrounds, the renovation and painting of the buildings and as working expenses during the winter months. The secretary also included in 'his report a comprehensive analysis of prize money and other outgoings revealing how the entries and other moneys received were related to the expenditure. One of the most satisfactory items, continued Mr. Mcßride, was the gate of £194. The main gate had produced £135 12s 6d. the car gate £53 0s 6d and the grandstand £5 7s. In every case these figures were a large increase upon those obtained by the Taihape A. and P. Association and even larger associations. Indeed, the gate receipts from the date of the formation of the Waimarino Show in 1910 up till the present time gave an interesting indication of the fluctuating fortunes of the association throughout the years. The following are the figures, those of insignificant years being omitted: —1910, £2B; 1914, £37; 1919, £62; 1921, £6l; 1926, £52; 1927, £6l; 1928, £6B: 1929, £62; 1930, £49; 1931, £45; 1932, £4O; 1933, £3B; 1934, £42: 1935, £6B; 1936, £52; 1937, £134; 1938, £140; 1939, £194. An enthusiastic vote of thanks to the secretary for his lucid and comprehensive report and for his able administration of the association’s activities for the past three years was recorded. The report was adopted. A decision was made to donate £1 Is each to the Wanganui Automobile Association and the St. John Ambulance (Ohakune) for their assistance on show day. Messrs. P. R. Mowat, H. B. Williams, R. G. Millar. R. B. Edwards, E. Bonner and J. M. Marriner were elected as new members. The resignations of Messrs. C. Wright. W. Journeaux and E. L. Martin were accepted with regret. Mr. A. Scarrow reported that tenders had been called for the roughing and levelling ot the showgrounds. This matter and that of renovating and painting the show buildings was left in the hands of a special sub-com-mittee comprising Messrs. A. Scarrow, H. J. Donnelly. E. A. Voelkerling. T. Dobson, M. Geraghty and W. P. Robertson. A special vote of thanks to Mr. Donnelly for his handling of the sheep section was recorded. Prior to the close of the meeting. Mr. Frederick expressed committee members' appreciation of the leadership of the president, Mr. Albert Scarrow. He had thrown his whole weight in the direction of making the 1939 show a success and the undoubted success of the fixture was a credit to his industry, tact and complete fairness to all. With Mr. Scarrow at their head and Mr. Mcßride as general organiser, the committee had no doubt as to the continued success and improvement of the activities of the association. In his reply, Mr. Scarrow said that he had had the advantage of an efficient and industrious committee, which had worked harmoniously as a team. He expressed his own thanks to the committee for the unstinted assistance which had been rendered to him.
