TAIHAPE POWER HOUSE

OVERHAUL OF PLANT ELECTRICITY RESTRICTIONS / As repairs are at present being 1 effected to the plant at the power house, consumers are requested to restrict the use of electrical appliances as much as possible in. the evenings, < and particularly on Saturdays, be- • tween the hours of 6.30 p.m. and 9.30 j p.m. The electrical engineer (Mr. W. J. : Dellow) explained to a Press reporter • yesterday that a start would be j made that evening with the dis- 7 mantling of the big turbine which has to be completely overhauled. This was 1 a big job and would take about a : fortnight. A new penstock gate weighing 1£ ' tons had also to be installed, and a < new shaft 10 feet in length, and 6i I inches in diameter had to be fitted. If '• consumers co-operated with the coun- , cil by restricting the use of electrical i appliances in the evenings, and 1 especially on Saturday nights as re- , quested, the overhaul of the plant at < the power house could be expedited, but if the support of consumers was ] not forthcoming, the council would have no alternative but to cut off the power and this would mean that the task of effecting the necessary repairs ; at the power house would take longer. '• Mr. Dellow hoped that the job would 1 be completed by Easter, and added ‘ that consumers could look forward to ■ an improved service when the over- ; haul was an accomplished fact. • FERE BRIGADE DEMONSTRATION The Taihape team to participate in the King Country Fire Brigade demonstration, to be held at Taihape on Saturday, March 25, will be selected from the following members of the brigade who are in training for the event:—Firemen J.
