AXN LAL MEETING SEASON TO OPEN ON APRIL 1 (Own Correspondent.) PATEA, March 21. Enthusiasm in football in Patea for the coming season was evidenced by the excellent attendance at the annual meeting of the club on Monday evening, over forty being present. Mr. E. F. Hemingway presided. The healthy position of the game in Patea was shown by the fact that there were seven teams fielded by the club last season, stated the annual report. The committee extended congratulations to the fourth grade team in winning the Taranaki championship. the report commending Mr. F. S. McKenna for his work with the team. Congratulations were also extended to Alan Richards on gaining the Taranaki blazer, he having represented the province from 1930 to 1938. L. Signal, B. Adams and and J. Davis, who were chosen to represent South Taranaki in the junior team, and the Patea School A midget team, on winning the Railton Cup. were also congratulated. It was with regret that the club lost by death one of its earliest supporters in Mr. J. McCarty, who was a friend to all sports clubs in Patea. The report concluded with thanks to donors of trophies, referees, assistants, coaches and trainers, and the St. John Ambulance Brigade for their work during the season, the latter body having attended to 133 calls. The Press, the Taranaki Rugby Union and the New Plymouth Boys’ High School, for allowing the fourth grade final to be played at Patea, were also thanked. Election of officers resulted: —Patron. Mr. A. Pearce; president, Mr. D. Quickenden; vice-presidents, twelve were elected; management committee, Messrs. R. Hamerton, I. Glenny, J. Rourke, A. Richards. W. T. Lamb, W. Railton. D. Ansley, L. Hunt, S. Goodwin and C. Thompson; hon. secretary, Mr. D. Ansley; hon. treasurer, Mr. E. F. Hemingway; delegates to Taranaki Rugby Union, G. Francis, L. Hunt and R. Hamerto.’i; club captain, Mr. L. Hunt; senior selectors, club captain, field captain and senior coach; junior selectors, coach, captain and vice-captain: physical instructor. Mr. R. W. Haddow; field trainers, i Messrs. Frank McKenna. W. Railton and C. Thompson; coaches. Mr. C. Thompson (senior), Mr. S. Goodwin 'junior). Frank McKenna (third grade), W. Railton (fourth grade); auditor. Mr. W. F. Shield, an honorarium being granted him. It was decided to enter senior, juinior, third and fourth grade teams jin the competitions. Subscriptions i were fixed at 10s for seniors and 5s | for other grades and Wednesday night was fixed for practice. Fourteen new • members were elected. It was decided to enter teams in the annual Manaia ten-a-side tournament on April 15, Patea being the holders of the cup.
