MARTON Mr. H. H. Richardson, president of i the Wanganui branch of the N.Z. Justices of the Peace Association, attended the annual conference of the New Zealand Association, at Timaru, last week, and returned to Marton on Saturday evening in company with [ Mrs. H. H. Richardson, who spent the week with friends in Wellington. A vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Messrs. E. Thoms, P. Miller, R. E. Beckett and A. Lorimer was carried by members standing in silence at the annual meeting of the Marton branch of the N.F.F.U. on Saturday night. PATEA. Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Christiansen have returned to Auckland. Miss Jean Paton, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. Chisnall. Misses Joan Nelson, Norma and Betty Bourke and Joan Clarke, of the newly formed Patea branch of the Alpine Club, visited Hawera for the first social evening last Thursday. Mr. F. C. Thomason, Cambridge, has been the guest of Mr. C. H. Carey. Misses Margaret Naismith, Markm Illingworth and Frances Jones are competitors in the Taranaki Deanna Durbin contest, which is being held at Hawera. The two former are scheduled to appear on March 30 and the latter on March 23. Mr. Norman Mitchell, who recently underwent an operation for appendicitis in the local hospital, is progress- | ing favourably. The many friends of Mrs. Lithgow will regret to learn of her death, which took place in lhe Patea Hospital on Saturday. Deepest sympathy will be felt for Mr. Lithgow and her daughters Helen and Jean and son George.
