MARTON v. TAIHAPE (Own Correspondent) MARTON, March 20. During the week-end five rinks of Taihape bowlers paid a friendly visit to Marton, and had a very enjoyable afternoon’s bowling. I On Saturday afternoon five rinks from the Feilding Bowling Club journeyed to Marton to play friendly 'matches, the visiting rinks winning on the aggregate by 127 points to 86. RANGITIKEI SCHOOLS’ SPORTS In the recent sports competition for the Morris Shield, the final figures show a very interesting result, viz., that actually three schools Mount View, Convent, and Parewanui —scored an equal number of points, and are therefore each entitled to hold the shield. It has been agreed that each school will hold it for four months, until it is again competed for next \ ear. Medals were awarded to the folI lowing boys and girls who obtained the highest individual scores in each of the competitions: —A Competition: Feace Shield. Boy Champion: Mervyn Whale (Marton Junction). Girl Champion: Merle Cairncross (D.H.S.) and Dawn Webb (Marton Junction) equal. I B Competition: Morris Shield. Boy iChampion: J. Warbrick (Parewanui). |Girl Champion: Patsy Oates (Coni' vent). First-class certificates were awarded to each of the following, who gained more than eight points: Douglas Whitfield (Mount View), Patsy Green (Putorino), Maurice Tate (Turakina), Donald Mitchell (Parewanui).

A book prize was awarded to Betty McLean (South Makirikiri) for a verymeritorious performance, being only a quarter of a point behind the winner of the medal. SALE OF BOBBY CALVES A meeting of all those interested in the sale of their bobby calves will be held in the Tutaenui Tall this (Tuesday) evening, at 8 o’clock. Messrs. Lloyd Hammond and A. C. Birch will attend and as the business is of vita! importance to the farmers a large attendance is requested. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE | MARTON BRANCH ACTIVITIES The next parade of the nursing division is next Friday night, at 7.45 I p.m., and until further notice these i parades will be held on Fridays. A large number of members made the journey to Wanganui on Tuesday night for the investiture which was most impressive and dignified. On Thursday night last, two members attended the final sports meeting at Bulls, and after the meeting were entertained to supper with the competitors, by the ladies committee. In his speech to all competitors and officials, the president of the Sports Club expressed the thanks of the committee for the presence of the St. John Ambulance each week, and asked the two members present to convey the club’s appreciation to the committee of the brigade. The mobilisation scheme will be finalised this month and each member will receive a copy prior to receiving an emergency call at some time. All members with first aid kits are

advised to see that their supplies are renewed before parades commence or immediately after parades finish, not during the time set down for practice. HALCOMBE-KAKARIKI W.D.F.U. FIRST ANNUAL DAHLIA SHOW The Halcombe-Kakariki branch of the W.D.F.U. will hold its first annual dahlia show in the Jubilee Hall, Halcombe, to-morrow (Wednesday, March 22), and will be open from 2 to 5 p.m., and will reopen at 7 p.m. During the evening there will be a number of competitions and among other attractions will be a display of Maori carvings by Rev. P. H. Leonard, and also a collection of Mr. Dempster’s foreign birds.
