RETURNED SOLDIERS MONTHLY MEETING HELD (Own Correspondent.) At the monthly meeting of the Taihape and District Returned Soldiers’ Association on Friday it was decided to invite Hon. W. Perry to be the guest of honour at the reunion dinner, and that he be offered the choice of four dates, namely May 10, 17, 24 and 31. On the motion of Mr. Berridge, it was resolved that the annual meeting be held on April 14. The matter of the annual shoot was left in the hands of Mr. H. Holmes. Mr. F. White moved that the Taihape Borough Council and the Taihape School Committee be written to regarding children playing on the soldiers’ war memorial in the Triangle. The secretary was instructed to write to the Department of Internal Affairs thanking them for erecting a kerb round the new R.S.A. plot at the cemetery. A resolution was passed fixing Poppy Day for April 22. The following officers were nominated for executive positions on the association: President, Mr. W. J. White; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Bosomworth, A. C. Aldridge; treasurer, Mr. C. A. McLaren; secretary, Mr. J. M. Scott; Q.M.S., Mr. R. Spence; executive committee, Messrs. P. Williams, J. Webb, H. Stevens, H. Holmes, C. Lloyd, L. Haydon. J. Niven, A. D. MacFarlane. No ballot will be necessary as the number of nominations does not exceed the number of vacancies and the above nominees will be automatically elected at the annual meeting next month. BOWLING TAIHAPE CLUB VISIT TO MANGAWEKA Three rinks from the Taihape Bowling Club visited Mangaweka during the week-end to play friendly games with that club. The visitors were hospitably entertained by the Mangaweka Club, while welcome refreshments were provided by the Mangaweka ladies. Mr. W. Berridge returned thanks for the hospitable treatment extended to the Taihape bowlers, while Mr. D. Marsh, vice-president of the Mangaweka Club, extended a warm welcome to the Taihape party. The rinks were as follow, Mangaweka players being mentioned first:— Bailey, Ewing, Barrell, D. Marsh; Kerr, J. Williams, Kirker, Seccombe; Sullivan, Ross, N. Glenny, Green; Kirkby. Holmes, Davis, Cherry; Havill, Sutherland, Waymouth, Antwiss; Scott, Berridge, Mason, Marsh. OWHAKI RA SCHOOL PICNIC On Saturday, February 19, the annual school picnic was held at Castlecliff, Wanganui. At an early hour a bus load of pupils and several cars left on the trip and all arrived on the sands near lunch time. The wharves were visited, a German vessel embodying unusual features and exciting much interest. The aviary at Virginia Lake was also inspected and it was a very happy party which arrived back in Taihape after a return trip made in good time.
