Lady Anderson, wife of the Member of the House of Commons, Sir Alan Anderson, escaped from a fire at Notgrove Manor, Cotswold, by lowering knotted sheets. A maid ran through a snowstorm and gave the alarm, but the fire engine was three times stuck in a snowdrift.
