FIRE IN MANOR HOUSE
LADY ANDERSON’S ESCAPE LOWERED HERSELF FROM WINDOW Received Dec. 23, 6.20 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 22. Lady Anderson, wife of the Member of the House of Commons, Sir Alan Anderson, escaped from a fire at Notgrove Manor, Cotswold, by lowering knotted sheets. A maid ran through a snowstorm and gave the alarm, but the fire engine was three times stuck in a snowdrift. The house, which for centuries was the home cf Dick Whittington’s descendants, was severely damaged.
