IMPRESSIVE DISPLAY

JOLLY BEGGAR’S WIN Giving a polished exhibition of jumping throughout, Jolly Beggar stayed on too well for the opposition in the big hurdle event at Te Rapa on Saturday. His performance under the steadier of 12st. was a distinctly impressive one and one that draws attention to his jumping prospects at the big June meeting at Ellerslie. Kilberis went a fine race and appeared to be definitely on the upgrade while Donegal’s performance suggests that he may do better, too. Valpai led over the first fence from King's Archer, Killader, Kilberis, Count Roussillon, Iddo, and Donegal. Silk Sox fell at the second fence and Jolly Beggar led past the stands jus; clear of Killader, Count Roussillon, Kilberis, Valpai, and Donegal, with King's Archer tailed off. As they went along the back, Kllladar was showing out from Iddo, with Jolly Beggar handily placed in front of Valpai, Kilberis, Donegal, Count Roussillon and King's Archer. As they came into the straight, Kilberis had shot to the front and he was just in front here from Killadar and Iddo, who were racin' 7 abreast in front of Jolly Beggar, Valpai and Donegal. Once over the last fence, Jolly Beggar asserted himselt and he beat Kilberis by two lengths Donegal was a neck away with Killadar fourth in front of Valpai, Iddo, Count Roussillon, with King’s Archer six lengths further back.
