ELAINE HAMILL IN LONDON

Elaine Hamill, the former Taihape girl, has made hosts of friends in London, says the correspondent of an Australian paper. She had scarcely been in England a week before her photograph appeared in two of London’s pictorial papers, and a week later she was broadcasting in the “In Town To-night” series of the 8.8. C. That was a good start for a girl new to London. But more successes were to follow. She found herself invited to fashionable cocktail parties, and to country homes for the weekend. Lady Forres, wife of Lord Forres, a magnate with big interest in railways in the Argentine, met her at a party, and soon became a close friend. Then, at one of Lady Forres’ parties, Elaine met Humbert Wolfe, the poet, who introduced her to Merton Hodge, the playwright from New Zealand, who has made a big name for himself on the West End stage, and to Vai Gielgud, the producer of drama at the 8.8. C.

These introductions proved very useful to Elaine, as she has since appeared in a television programme, and in a radio play at the 8.8. C., the “St. Louis Blues.” But Elaine is not satisfied with 8.8. C. and television broadcasts. She aims 1o get on the London stage, and she has already had satisfactory talks with Mr C. Cochran, and Mr Basil Dean. She was given encouragement and good advice, and told that her time would shortly come.
