SHOOTING

DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB SUMMERVILLE TROPHY The Wanganui Defence Rifle Club fired their weekly shoot on Saturday for a trophy donated by Mr A. R. Sommerville, two shoots at 300 yards, and the final shoot is next Saturday, ten shots at 500 and 600 yards. A. Doidge came out on top with 95, and R. Shaw and W. Howard next with 94. The weather was dull and overcast with a tricky wind, which caused several outers and magpies. The Rifle Union shoot for rifle clubs from Patea to Levin is to take plac? at Putiki on May 14. Last year there were 15 teams competing and this year the same number of teams are expected, although several teams have not yet replied as to whether they will be here or not.
