RANGIWAEA BIRTHDAY MEETING

The Rangiwaea Women's Institute celebrated its fourth birthday on Thursday, April 21. The new president, Mrs Donovan, presided, and welcomed visitors from Utiku and Karioi Institutes. It was decided to devote the May meeting to thorough consideration of the important remits to be discussed at. the Dominion conference in Wellington in July. Birthday greetings were received from other institutes and a posy presented by the president of the Utiku Institute.

Mrs Dellow, president of the Ruapehu Federation, gave a short address. An interesting demonstration of new wool work for cushions was given by Mrs Speedy. The major part of the afternoon was devoted to entertainment, and a programme of folk dancing, sketches and competitions presented. During the afternoon, a book was presented to Mrs Speedy in appreciation of service as president during the greater part of the institute’s life.

The competition, “Suggestions for Competitions for the Year,” was postponed until next meeting.
