PLUNKET SOCIETY

The monthly meeting of the Plunket Society and Stewart Karitane Home was held at the Plunket rooms on Tuesday. Mrs H. D. Robertson (president) presided, and the following members were present: Mesdames Talboys, Ross, Millward, Jenkins, Boyes, McGregor, Nixqn, Widdowsort, G. H. Robertson, Keesing, O’Neill, Currie, Graham, Deacon, Cole, Ziesler, Miss Stanford and Mr O’Meara.

Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Holst, Hill, Maclean, Wickham, Russell, Bates, and Knight. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs Knight in the loss of her father. This was carried in the usual manner.

The Plunket nurses reported for the month as follows:—Old cases on books, 753; expectant mothers, 38; new cases, 93; visitors to offices, 1727; telephone calls, 56; visits to homes, 252. In the pre-natal section the work is steadily growing. Thirteen new cases were registered and 64 return visits were paid. The hospital has hao an exceptionally busy month. Twentyfive babies and seven mothers were admitted and twenty-two babies ana seven .aethers were discharged. Six of the admissions were premature babies. Babies and mothers were sent in from the following districts: Woodville, Brunswick, Taumarunui, Palmerston North, Kaponga, Fordell, Stratford, Makirikiri, Opunake, New Plymouth, Feilding, Dannevirke, Kai Iwi, Parapara. Nurse Hall finished duty and Nurse Dewes commenced training. The Dominion Council advised that Dr. Martin Tweed had resigned as rredical adviser to the society and the committee passed a resolution of thanks and appreciation of his past services and for his kind offer of assistance in the future. Miss Cranstone offered to arrange a concert at a later date for the benefit of the society and her offer was accepted with thanks. The society In conjunction with the Victoria Geague, is helping at the Anzac Day tea, and the following members agreed to assist —Mesdames H. D. Robertson, Currie, O’Neill, and Keesing.

A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Deacon and helpers for the very successful clothes drive they had arranged at Castlecliff, the society’s funds benefiting to the extent of £2O 8s 4d.

The president reported that a Do-minion-wide appeal for membership was to be broadcast during May. The speakers w”l include Her Excellency, Lady Galway, and members of the Plunket Society, and it was left to the president to interview the local press, asking 11 m to co-operate in this appeal. The ball committee reported that arrangements were well in hand forth? ball to be held probably some time in J.ine and it was left Io them to finalise date and hall.

The president of the Wanganui East Committee reported that each member rf the committee had agreed to give a “cake tea” and they had also arranged a working bee on Saturday, 2'pril 30, in order to tidy up and cut the grass around the Wanganui East Plunket rooms.
