FOR HALLIBURTON-JOHNSON cup PRO MN DIAL REPRESEN T A HON. AUCKLAND BEATS WAITEMATA. A trial to decide representation in the interprovincial eight-oared race for the Halliburton-Johnson Cup at Wanganui next Monday was rowed between Auckland and Waitemata on Saturday afternoon. The result has narrowed the issue down to Auckland and Tauranga. The latter was unable to be present on Saturday and it has been decided that the crew finishing first in the championship eights next Saturday will have the honour of representing Auckland Province. The personnel of the crews was as follows;—Auckland: R. B. Smith (stroke), C. Chamberlain, R. Porter, J. Dykes, D. Simmonds, G. Oxspring, H. Jellie, D. Elwood, A. White (cox). Waitemata: C. Cairns (stroke), O. W. Denison, A. Harper, W. Brown, J. McCowan, G. Brown, T. Bellringer, F. Weaver, R. Mikkelson (cox), lhe starter was Mr. C. C. Cairns.

Waitemata was first to show out and off Orakei wharf had the advantage by a quarter of a length. Auckland maintained a steady str) ce and with half the distance covered the crews raced on level terms. Auckland then took the initiative and forged to the front. Increasing its advantage at every stroke, Auckland moved at a merry pace over the last half-mile and gained the verdict by two and a-half lengths, in spite of Waitemata’s determined efforts.

WANGANUI ASSOCIATION

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETS. REGATTA PREPARATIONS. The executive committe of the Wanganui Rowing Association met on Tuesday night, the president, Mr. R. J. McDonald, presiding over a large attendance of delegates. A large amount of correspondence relating to the championships at Easter was dealt with and the various matters were delegated to sub-com-mittees to deal with. It was decided that where there are two entries from the one club in a race, the coxswain of the No. 2 crew shall carry a distinguishing arm band. Arrangements have been made to broadcast a running commentary of the races during the day.

Messrs. W. Boyland and A. S. Donald offered the use of their launches for conveying the umpires on the Saturday and Monday and it was decided to convey to the gentlemen concerned the thanks of the association for,their generous offer. The visiting oarsmen are to be entertained at the Carlton Ballroom on Saturday evening and will be taken for a river trip on the following day. The following further donations have been received towards the championship regatta funds:—
