CONTINGENT FAREWELLED
WANGANUI R.S.A. EVENING'S ENTERTAINMENT Members who are to represent the Wanganui Returned Soldiers’ Association at the Anzac celebrations in Sydney last evening by the association. The entertainment was arranged by the Tin Hat Club--the social section of the association. A most enjoyable evening was spent by all. To the strains of a bugle the contingent, which had mustered outside the hall, marched in and were inspected with due ceremony by the “major.” For discrepancies in dress several Diggers’ names were taken by the “sergeant.” There followed a number of stirring hakas and items by the piano-accordion duo.
On behalf of the Tin Hat Club the president, Mr. A. J. Pritchard, addressed the members who are leaving for Australia, wishing them bon voyage, a pleasant stay, and a safe return. Mr. H. Cannon, president of the Wanganui R.S.A., also addressed the Diggers. A feature of the evening was a mock orderly room scene. Members of the contingent were summoned for various “offences,” “arrested,” and duly “fined” for their negligence. The
“colonel” (Mr. A. J. Pritchard) and the “scrgcant-at-arms” (Mr. C. La Roche) handled the situation with befitting dignity and severity.
