ROWING

ARAMOHO BOATING CLUB HOUSING THE VISITORS EASTER PREPARATIONS The Aramoho Boating Club’s shed during the week-end has been a hive of industry. Fresh cinders were carted for the pathways and the boatshed given a general tidy up. A number of the visiting clubs will be housing their boats at the Aramoho shed during Easter. Applications for housing space from the following clubs were granted; Waitemata, Napier, Wairau, Picton, Clifton, Auckland and Petone.

To enable these clubs to bring their plant in, fresh racks have had to be erected and all boats not being used by the club in the regatta have been stored in Mr A. Pepper’s workshop. The thanks of the club are due to Mr Pepper for his generosity in allowing the club the use of his workshop for the occasion.

In addition to the working bee on the week-end, several try-outs were indulged in by the various regatta crews. Some stiff races were witnessed, each race being followed by the coaches in Mr Willetts’ motorcanoe. Thanks are also due to Mr Willetts, another staunch supporter of the club, in allowing the shed the use of his line craft. The results of the try-outs were in the main satisfact' although one Ox two of the crews lacked the necessary devil at the finish, but with several hard training rows yet to come they should acquire this and be in tip-top form for the regatta. In practically all crews, from the top grade to the maidens, a slowness in getting the hands away at the finish of the stroke was noted. Concentration on this essential detail will result in giving the boat more run and obviate the slide.
