CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING
TEAM FROM AUSTRALIA
MR. C. R. WHITE’S SUGGESTION
At the reunion dinner of the Wanganui Harrier Club held at the termination of last season, it was suggested by Mr. C. R. White, vicepresident of the club, that in the coming season it would be opportune if an Australian cross-country team visited the Dominion. The national championships this year are to be held at New Plymouth, and it was suggested by Mr. White that if a visit of an Australian team did eventuate they could compete in this event.
The team which represented the Dominion in harrier races in Australia in 1935, was managed by Mr. White, and he returned to this country keenly conscious of the value of such a' visit as a means of establishing goodwill. His suggestion concerning a visit from an Australian team in the coming season was referred tu the national council by Mr. G. Benson, president of the West Coast (N. 1. Centre, and there appears to be a good prospect of a team coming tc the Dominion. L. F. Dawkins in Australia Many in Wanganui connected with athletics will remember Mr. L. F. Dawkins, former member of the New Zealand A.A.A. and secretary of the Wellington Centre Harrier bub-Com-mittee, who is now domiciled in Australia. Mr C. R. White, of Wanganui, has received advice from that country which indicates that Mr Dawkins is going a good deal to further harrier running in Australia. At a meeting of a committee appointed by the Amateur Athletic Council of New South Wales Mr Dawkins outlined methods of control adopted in New Zealand. The proposals were favourably considered.
