CROQUET OPENING WAVERLEY COMPETITIONS The Waverley Club celebrate:! tiic opening of the 1937-38 season on Saturday afternoon in spendid weather. There was a good attendance of members and visitors from the nearby clubs. The president, Mrs S. Bromiley, extended a welcome to members, old and new, and also to the visitors. Mr W. Heginbotham officially opened the green by playing the first ball through the hoops. Speaking as chairIman of the Domain Board, Mr W. Heginbotham wished the ladies a successful and enjoyable season’s play. The greens were in excellent order and those present spent an enjoyable afternoon in competition play. The winners of the various competitions were: Skittles, Mrs R. P. Palmer; croquet in the rain, Miss K. Cleary; golf croquet, Mrs F. Sheppard. A most enjoyable afternoon tea was served by the members. At the conclusion of the afternoon's play a general meeting of members decided to hold a bring-and-buy afternoon on November 6 next.
