SUSTENANCE FRAUDS
OFFENDERS FINED [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Oct. 22. Fines were imposed to-day as follows: £25 on Joseph Barber, on one of five charges in connection with a sustenance fraud; £lO on Edward George Beazley, on one of three charges; £7 on Daniel McEwan on one of two charges; £4 on Edward Bowen, on one of two charges. Pleading guilty to having made false declarations in obtaining sustenance money, Jack Thompson was sentenced to one month's imprisonment and lined £lO. Mr On Walker, after hearing the evidence, said that Thompson had made fifteen false declarations and on eleven of them had obtained £8 odd. He had given a false name.
