STRENUOUS TOUR CRICKETERS IN ENGLAND N.Z. REPRESENTATIVES [ Ter Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Oct. 21. “The tour of the New Zealand cricketers in England was very strenuous,” said Mr. A. J. Dunning, of Otago, who returned by the Rangitiki. He said the English summer had been the finest experienced for many years, and the only time the team had met wet weather was when playing important matches in London and Manchester. The outstanding feature of the tour was the success of Cowie, Auckland’s fast bowler, and th.* great performances of Donnelly, the colt of the team.
Mr. Dunning considered Cowie as good as any of the English fast bowlers. The dry season did not suit the New Zealand left-handers, notably Vivian and Gallichan. The conditions suited Moloney’s slow spin bowling. All through the tour the team had pulled well together, said Mr. Dunning.
Referring to the New Zealanders now living in England, Mr. Dunning said that Janies was keeping wickets as well as anybody. Dempster had had a good first half of the season; Badcock and Merritt were doing well in the Lancashire League, and Blunt was playing with Sir Julien Cahn’s team.
