SHELLS FROM THE EMDEN
FOUND ABOARD JAP LUGGER. DISCOVERY AT SINGAPORE. Received Oct. 21, 10.45 p.m. SINGAPORE, Oct. 21. Following stories in circulation on the waterfront that a Japanese ship in harbour was carrying munitions, the police searched and found a 75ton Japanese lugger with 400 unexploded six-inch shells aboard. The crew declared that the shells were found buried on a beach in the Indian Ocean. Marks on the casings confirm that the shells are from the German warship Ehiden, destroyed at Cocos Island.—(When the Main Body of the N.Z.E.F. was en route to Egypt in 1914).
