GIJON BOMBARDED
MASS OF FLAMING RUINS INSURGENTS ADVANCING ASTURIAN ’PLANES FLY TO FRANCE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received Oct. 21, 9 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 21. A message from Bayonne says that surviivng ’planes of the Asturian Air Force were flown to France to prevent capture by the insurgents, who are only seven miles from the last northern stronghold. One crashed in the sea. The passengers are believed to include leading Gijon politicians. Gijon was heavily bombarded from sea and air and the populous quarter was reduced to flaming ruins. The insurgents allege that anarchists are pillaging and setting fire to the city. A report received from St. Jean-de-Luz says that the British steamer Bramden and a British destroyer left for Gijon.
