WOMAN KILLED
HUSBAND IN HOSPITAL TRUCK FALLS OVER BANK TAIHAPE, October 18. Fatal injuries were received by Mrs. E. G. Knight, aged 70, of Ohingaiti, and her husband, aged 71, was injured when a light motor-truck in which they were travelling went over a 40ft. bank at Te Moehau Junction, near Turangaarere, a few miles north of Taihape, about eight o’clock last evening. Mr. and Mrs. Knight had been visiting their son, Mr. E. L. Knight, of Turangaarere, and were returning home when the accident occurred. Mr. Knight was driving. The truck travelled across the forks of the road and plunged over the bank. Though the vehicle came to rest on its wheels, the hood was torn off, the windscreen was smashed and other damage resulted.
Mrs. Knight suffered severe head injuries. Her husband received a deep scalp wound and was admitted to the Taihape Hospital suffering severely from shock, but his condition is not regarded as serious.
The accident was seen by Mr. Charton, who is employed by the Public Works Department at Waiouru, and who was returning to camp. He saw the lights of a vehicle a short distance ahead and then he noticed the truck leave the road and plunge over the bank.
