TENNIS MEETING The annual meeting of the Mangavveka Tennis Club was held last week, and there was a fair attendance. The report and balance sheet were read and adopted. The following were elected as officers for the coming season: President, Mr. A. Moss; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. Jacobs and H. Bailey; auditor, Mr. H. N. Waymouth; hon sec., Mr. H. Jacobs; club captain, Mr. A. Moss; ladies’ captain, Miss V. Knight; committee, Miss Sweet, Messrs. I. Dickinson, B. Bailey, E. Noble, I. Berry, McKay and D. Saywell. Messrs. 11. Jacobs and Rev. N. Watkins were appointed as trustees. The opening day was fixed for Wednesday, October 20, and the secretary was instructed to write invitations to the usual clubs. CLOSING OF THE GOLFING SEASON The closing of the golf season was held during the week-end in perfect weather, with a large number of members and visitors. During the morning mixed foursomes were played and the winners were S. McLeod and Miss Oulsnam. The winners for the afternoon rounds were Mrs. Sullivan (Utiku) and H. Dalrymple Ist. W. Thurston (Utiku) runner-up for the men’s. After afternoon tea the president (Mr. D. Campbell) with the assistance of the ladies secretary (Mrs. D. Barrell) presented the trophies won during the season. The winners are as follows: —Ladies championship, Mrs. L. Bailey; Mr. H. Waymouth’s bogey eclectic, Miss Berry; Mrs. D. Barrell’s trophy. Miss Berry; Mrs. Campbell’s trophy (most improved player), Miss Berry; Mrs. Campbell's trophy (open eclectic), Miss Berry; Miss Knight's trophy, Miss Berry; Mrs. J. Phillip's tropy (best aggregate for season), Miss Berry; men's championship, J. P. O’Callaghan; Mrs. J. Phillip’s trophy, H. Waymouth; H. Waymouth’s trophy (bogey eclectic), J. P. O’Callaghan; Brinsden Cup, D. Barrell.
After the presentation of prizes Mr. Campbell asked Miss Weston to accept a handsome crystal water set from the members of the golf club. Mr. Campbell also expressed the club's thanks to Mr. Weston for his generosity to the members for the use of his land for the golf links. Miss Weston suitably replied. Mr. Prime, president of the Utiku Club, expressed thanks on behalf of the visitors.
