RAETIHI

ATAWHAI INSTITUTE. The Druids' Hall, decorated with balloons and streamers, was the scene of much gaiety on Friday evening, when the Atawhai Institute celebrated the conclusion of the first year of its existence with a combined ball and birthday party. At the request of the president (Mrs. R. Tuatini) the ceremony of cutting the cake, with its one candle, was performed by Mrs. D. Frederick (president of the Raetihi Institute). To the expressions' of goodwill and best wishes, Mrs. Tuatini suitably replied. Entertainment during the evening (apart from dancing) was provided by Mrs. D. Smith and her talented pupils. Their items, which were warmly applauded, were as follows: Tap dance, Mrs. D. Smith; waltz tap, Miss Ruku Tuatini; Hula tap, Miss Lulu Tuatini; tap dance, Daphne Smith; soldiers’ tap, novelty dance, Misses Melva Cutbush, Nola Coker and Master Raymond Rickards; ballet (leg kick), Misses Audrey Langdon, Phylis Clegg, Loma Webb and Maire Morgan. Mrs. Tuatini thanked Mrs. Smith and her pupils for their assistance in making the evening such a success.

Following supper, dancing occupied the remainder of the evening. Novelty dances were won by the following:—Monte Carlo (1), Miss Clegg and Mr. Soar; Monte Carlo (2), Mrs. B. Chadwick and Mr. John Rangi; spot one-step, Miss H. Goile and Mr. M. B. Dunning. A “Treasure Hunt” was won by Mrs. W. Raymond and Mr. M. Haley. The music was supplied by the Blue Rythm Orchestra while extras were played by Mrs. Leckie, Miss Maire Morgan and Ritchie Rihane. WAIMARINO GOLI-’ CLUB. A strong contingent of local players visited Taihape during the week-end and all enjoyed a very enjoyable trip. The local club lost the majority of the matches, and in the “Cascade" competition lost by five matches to one. Quite a number made their first visit to Taihape, and the experience of a hilly course was quite new to them. The course was in excellent condition and the catering done by the Taihape ladies’ was all that could be desired. RUATITI FARMERS’ BALL. I he fourth Ruatiti Farmers’ annual ball was held at Mr. H. W. Littlewoods wool shed on Saturday evening and there was a large attendance from far and near. Jacob’s Orchestra supplied music and dancing was kept up to a very late hour.
