The ladies’ auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A. had a very busy day yesterday when the members held a fair in aid of funds. Well-stocked stalls attracted buyers, who went along during the morning to have a choice of goods. More cakes and produce were brought along early in the afternoon to restock the stalls. The stallholders expressed their appreciation of the help received. The cake and produce stall was managed by Mesdames H. Rowling, F. Carpenter, Falconer, Greagor, Gilbert and Simpson, the jumble stall by Mesdames Pollock, Dow, Riley, Hair and Bonner, and the bookstall by Misses Duirs and McDonald, and Mesdames D. T. Allan and Dustin. A Presentation. To meet their president, Miss Reta Bassett, and convey their good wishes for her coming marriage, a large number of members of the Wanganui Girls’ College Old Girls’ Association assembled in the large sitting room at the College last evening. Miss Bassett has, for many years, been an indefatigable worker in the interests of the association, and of the school, and has held office as committee member, secretary, treasurer and president. There were well over fifty members present, and the evening took the form of a curd party, in presenting Miss Bassett witn a silver tea service, Miss M. Newcombe asked her to accept the gift as a tangible expression of the old girls’ appreciation of her efforts for the association and the school, and wished her every happiness in the future. Miss Bassett, who feelingly replied, was the recipient of many good wishes from those 1 present.
