WOMEN’S INSTITUTE The monthly meeting of the Ohingaiti Women’s Institute was held in the local hall on Tuesday. The meeting opened with the “Ode to Friendship” and the “Creed.” Mrs L. Weston presided over a fair attendance of members including two new members, who were welcomed. Delegates were appointed to represent the 0.W.1. at the council meeting • to be held at Mangaweka on October 21. Mrs James was appointed reporting delegate and Mrs Dalziell voting delegate. After the business was disposed of Mrs D. Stent gave an interesting demonstration on rug-making from sugar sacks and old materials. The competition for the best jar of marmalade resulted: Mrs James 1, Mrs Bartlett 2. The competition for the thrift article resulted: Mrs Bartlett 1, Miss L. Stent 2. Members were reminded that next meeting would be held in the Presbyterian Bible Class room and also to bring eggs as a donation to the Taihape Hospital. Afternoon tea, the social chat and finally the singing of the National Anthem brought an enjoyable meeting to a close. PERSONAL Mr H. M. McGuckin, of Shannon, has been appointed postmaster of the local office. Mr McGuckin is expected to commence duties near the end ol the month. MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB WEEKLY SHOOT The weekly shoot of the Ohingaiti Rifle Club and the first of the series for the Munro Rose Bowl took place on Wednesday night. The shooting did not reach the standard set last week, but Mr A. C. Lewer shot a possible 70 and Mr T. L. Hammond a 69. The following scores were recorded: A. C. Lewer 65, 70. 2—136; T. L. Hammond 67, 69. 1—136; W. L. Martyn 66, 67, 3—136; J. Kemp 63, 62 7 —l32' T. Mercer 66, 60, 3 —129; R. Miller 64, 62, 3—129; A. McDonald 63, 63, 3—129. In the shoot-off. A. C. Lewer was first in the weekly cpmpetition and W. L. Martyn second. The position of marksmen in the championship finds T. L. Hammond with a lead of 12 above the nearest competitor. T. L.
