Carpenter and Company have bought the New South Wales coasta: steamer Coombar, which will replace one of the vessels lost in the eruption. PLAN TO RESTORE TOWN SYDNEY, June 8. The total damage done by the volcanic eruptions at Rabaul is estimated at about £200,000. The Administrator, Brigadier-General W. R. McNicoll, is determined to re-establish Rabaul as the capital, and plans have been made for the early return of the male portion of the population. The channel in the harbour to Rabaul is regarded as safe.
