MAXWELL MEETING
The Maxewell Women’s Institute's June meeting was well attended, several visitors being present. The president extended a hearty welcome to all Five new members were added to the roll, viz.: Mesdames Brine, Moosman, Gibson. Lewis and Miss E. Luty. A letter was read from the secretary of the Hospital Board expressing thanks for a parcel of clothing from Maxwell Institute. The president thanked all those who had helped with the catering for the recent dog-trials. The funds of the institute had been considerably augmented thereby. It was decided to send a donation to the federation Io help towards the expenses of the round-table conference in Wellington. The flower competition for a vase of mixed flowers was judged by Mrs. Brine and Mrs. Lewis, who awarded the points as follows: Mrs. Staite ], Mrs. N. Hughes 2, Mrs. L. Davies 3’ The competition for prettiest nightdress, judged by Mrs. Humphries and Mrs. Rush, resulted as follows: Mrs. Mundy J, Miss Woodhouse 2, Miss E. Morrison 3. Soap: Mrs. Brown 1. The junior competition for shortbread resulted: Rita Brown 1, Miriam Luty 2. An amusing competition was won by Mrs. Mundy. The junior competition for July will be coconut-ice. The principal feature of the meeting was a very fine demonstration on papier-mache given by Mrs. Rush. This was watched very closely and the many pretty articles exhibited were much admired. At the conclusion of the lesson Mrs. Rush received a hearty vote of thanks. The hostesses for July will be Mesdames Mundy, Stevenson, N. Verry, Misses Siddali and Stevenson. The meeting concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
