MATAROA MEETING
The usual monthly meeting of the Mataroa Women’s Institute was held on May 27 and was made the occasion ot the third birthday celebrations.. The motto for the day was supplied by Mrs Harper. The president welcomed the many visitors from Rangiwaea, Turangaarere, and Utiku, making special mention of the pleasure it gave her institute to have the president and so many members of the Ruapehu Federation with them in their celebrations. After routine business had been attended to the meeting resolved itself into a social function, items being rendered by Mrs Alien, of Taihapej Mrs W. Beil. Rangiwaea, and Mrs Luxford, of Utiku. Various competitions were held, after which the two-tier birthday cake, which had been made by Mrs Weeber and iced by Mrs Black, was cut by members of the federation after the three candles had been lit by the youngest, and blown out by the oldest institute members. As each federation member cut the cake, best wishes were expressed for the success of the Mataroa Institute. Them onthly competitions resulted as follows: White scones. Mrs Davies 1. Mrs Bosher 2. Mrs Harper 3. Premier flower, Mrs Davies. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs Black and Miss Dunn. The competition for June will be gingerbread, and the demonstration tree pruning.
