MEETING Of COUNCIL WORK FOR T HE MONTH The monthly meeting of the Waitotara County Council was held yesterday, Mr. Duncan Mackintosh presiding. Those present were Crs. D. McGregor, W. Craig, J. J. Lissette, W. Todd, J. Marumaru, J. Rice and Collins. It was reported that a portion of No. 3 Line adjacent to the city boundary was being built up in readiness for tar sealing. A letter was received from the committee recently set up regarding the construction of swimming baths at Fordell asking for the use of a section of land belonging to the county. Mr. D. McGregor said that the committee had received a promise of assistance from the Public Works Department which would assist with the loan of tools, advice and the use of motor lorries. The chairman considered that the project was a worthy one and called for the support of the council. He was no averse to giving the committee the use of the area of land provided that no application was made to the council for assistance. He wished Cr. McGregor to intimate to the committee that the council would not give any assistance. On this condition, he moved that the use of the area of land should be granted. The motion was carried. Cr. Collins enquired if it would be possible to construct a track around the cliffs on the portion of the Mount View Road which had been damaged by the February floor. The county engineer, Mr. R. R. Dawson, said that it would be possible to construct a track over which the settler could drive their sheep. It was decided that the engineer and Cr. Collins should confer on the matter. Engineer’s Report. I The report of the engineer for November, which was adopted, stated:— | Mangawhero Riding.—Fields Track I Road was again closed to traffic for a few days last week due to blockage by a heavy slip. There is still a considerable amount of work necessary to complete repairs after which the men engaged will be transferred to the Wangaehu Valley road to execute general repairs. Light metal repairs have been effected on the Kaiwaike and Makirikiri Valley Roads.
