Monday, November 23, 4 p.m. General Situation. —A shallow depression is crossing the South Island, while a rather intense one is at present centred between Cape Maria’ van Diemen and Norfolk Island. An anti-cyclone covers Australia and extends on to the Western Tasman Sea. Forecast. Winds: Southerly in the far south, otherwise northeasterlies or easterlies prevailing, moderate mainly at lirst but increasing to gale force at places in the far north and a general change to freshening southerlies probably shortly. Seas (N.Z. waters): Rough north of East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate but later rising south of East Cape and about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong southerly winds of gale force in parts of the northern portion; seas rather rough to rough. Weather.—Cloudy to overcast with most or fog in places and ram in most districts. Heavy falls probably in the northern and northeastern portions of the North Island, with some flooding, lempeiatures mild to warm but becoming cooler to-morrow, especially in the south. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John's Hill, report, lor 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday; Bright sunshine, 5 hours 30 minutes. Rainfall, nil. Shade temperature: Maximum, 76deg. Fahr.; minimum, 48deg. Fahr. .
