JOCKEY WINS CASE HAWERA FARMER CONVICTED ECfiO OF CIVIL ACTION I Per Press Association] HASTINGS, Nov. 23. A charge of using insulting language to a well-known jockey, Percy Christian Atkins, was preferred against Frederick William Ehrhorn, farmer, of Hawera, at the Napier Magistrate’s Court this morning. The words complained of were “You dirty rotter." The prosecution arose as a result of a civil action heard in the Supreme Court, Napier, when Ehrhorn was non-suited in a claim for £l5OO for the loss of the racehorse Gay Chief, allegedly through negligent riding by Atkins. “After the civil action was over I went out on to the Parade and talked to a number of my friends," said Atkins. "1 saw Ehrhorn on the Parade and while I was speaking to some friends he came up and said, ‘I suppose you're satisfied now, you dirty rotter, but I'll get evens with you later.' He seemed very annoyed about the case." The magistrate convicted Ehrhorn and ordered him to come up for sen-, fence if called upon within twelve l months. He was also ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution and undertake not to molest Atkins In future.
