COMMITTEE MEETING | AUTUMN CHANGE OF DATE I Mr R. D. McKelvie presided over a I meeting of the committee of the Rangitikei Racing Club, held in Bulls, | on Thursday evening. i Condolence. Before commencing I the business of the meeting the chairj man referred feelingly to the loss : which the club had sustained through the death of one of its oldest members, Mr J. J. McDonell. Mr McDonell joined the club in 1886, and in 1893 accepted the position of clerk of the course, carrying out his duties capably for a number of years, and later, as a mark of appreciation of his valuable services, he was elected a life member of the club. A motion of sympathy with relatives of deceased was passed, and as a mark of respect all stood in silence. The caretaker reported that a start had been made with top-dressing the course proper with soil. New sheep | yards have been erected, and docking finished. The sheep are in good condition. The balance-sheet of the spring meeting showed that a net prolit of £609 had been made over the fixture, which was considered very satisfa/ lory considering the showery weather experienced. The deputy racecourse inspector, Mr T. Quirke, reported that he did not have occasion to warn off any undesirables. | General.—lt was decided to ascertain the cost of a jockeys’ board for I erection alongside the semaphore: to I place ruberoid on the floor of the balcony to preventrain-drippings; and to engage Mr W. C. Price to put the starting barriers in good order. A Quotation is to he obtained for wirenetting frames to cover in the front of the grandstand, to keep out birds during the periods between meetings. The Course Committee will meet on the course shortly to inspect the water supplies, and to ascertain x'.hat improvements are necessary before the March meeting. Regarding the latter meeting, the club is applying for Saturday, March 6, instead of Wednesday, March 3, Saturday being fhe better day for racing in this district.
