WANGANUI AIRPORT
USE OF RELIEF LABOUR ’ NEW SCHEME TO BE ADOPTED 200 MEN WILL BE PUT OFF FORCED ON SUSTENANCE As from June 1 work on th e Wanganui Airport is to be carried out on the same terms and conditions as at ofiher airports in the Dominion, particulars as to conditions are to be fur nibbed by the Public Works Depart ment. Such decision has been arrived at by the City Council, which met Air. W. B. Bromiley, of the Unemployment Board, on Monday night. “ Ahe Alinister of Public Works ito be advised that the introduction of Public Works conditions at the airport will result in at least 200 men being put oil and forced on to sustenance,“ stated a report on the conferonce with Air. Bromiley, tabled last night at th® City Council meeting. “Mr. Bromiley agreed to intermittent workers being employed in ciearing streets, etc., of noxious weeds, subject to subsidy and X scale of wages which are to com© into force on June 1. He also adAisea that th-e council could receive a rubsidy of £2 5s per week for each worker employed for a, 4(Hhour week at standard rates, for draunage and simiia©- works. 1
