I NEW PLYMOUTH, May 5. ; I Vastly improved conditions for work 1 I were in evidence on the New Plymouth 0 tracks this morning and, though the 0 ) going was cutting up, the course oroper 0 I was in splendid order for work at this time of the year. The final gallops of horses engaged at Hawera on Thursday created much in- ]( t erest and, on the course proper with u the flags out fifteen feet, the Mcßae io Cup candidate Grateful was responsible 1 for a very attractive trial over five f furlongs. Another good gallop was 7 registered by Refresher, wno had a sub stantial weight up, and (here is no doubt these two horses are in great, I heart to fulfil their engagements this I week. 9 | Gold Mission (Savage j showed that she i’ not far from her best by deft Jcisively beating Mustang (McTavish) n over -live furlongs in 1.5. Gold Mis- () sion pulled up well. o I Bantry (McTavish) always had the measure of VVahine Nui (L. Dulicu) in their half-mile sprint an! eventually ; finished a ‘couple of length ahead of the mare in 52, the first two fuYongs being , n run in 25 2-5. Bantry could have done S better had he been required, and is in “> great heart io commence his winter raco ’ n Silk Sox and Sporting Song did o steadv pace work. 0 Grateful Pleases I A very pleasing effort was registered by Grateful (Savage), who jumped off ’alone from the five furlongs peg. Running the first two in 25 1-5, and the first three in 37 3-5, Grateful came home unextended in 1.3 2-5 fur the full distance. I’he Mcßae Cup candidate, ] has never been better than at present. . Hunting Maid, who is uuilding up; steadily in condition, worked freely on the inside. Ihe Lackham—Senyora and Nigger Minstrel Miss Cute fillies worked along nicely together on the inner grass. The Lackham youngster, a halfI sister to Tahurangi, Morena and High lest, is one of the most attractive yearlings seen for a long while. After breakfast, Tomoana worked on the inner grass. I Tahurangi (Kley) worked over a mile iat an easy three-quarter pa‘ce, coming home the last two furlongs in 27. He is well forward, having beaten Refresher in their last two gallops. High Test (Eley), who was having his first gallop since being recommissioned, surprised by slipping over half j a mile in 52} and coming home well, i High Test has come to hand very | quickly. Glenvane (Bevan) was allotted a working gallop over a mile encompassing the distance in 1.52}. He did not have a great deal of pace on for the [first three furlongs, taking 57} for the [first half-mile. He came home well, I however, running the last five furlongs in 1.8 4-5. Yesterday morning Glenvane (Davoren) gave another good exhibition over six schooling hurdles. He looks brighter now than he has done for some time past. Script. (Pell) jumped off four lengths ahead of Refresher (Davoren) from the five furlongs, but the old horse soon made up the leewav to hit the front at the. three furlongs peg and come home a length ahead of his companion in 1.4 1-5 for the full distance, the j first three furlongs taking 37}. Script’s [time for the distance was 1.5. Rei fresher had a big weight to carry, so I his effort was a really good one. Davistock (Bevan) ran an easy mile lalone in 1.51 3-5. the first half-mile in 56 and the first six furlongs in 1.23 2-5. r He was going well within himself all j the way. : Calsbot (Davoren) and Ngatirahiri [ Toll) were always going well within themselves to run their five furlongs in , i I.B}, the first three furlongs taking 39 1 2-5, They could have improved a lot on this time had they been required, j A change of riders has been made in connection with Grateful, and his j trainer, IT.
