NEW RUGBY SCHEME
SUGGESTION TO WANGANUI INVOLVES KANGITIKEI A scheme io improve the standard >f Rugby in Wanganui and to increase public interest was advanced at the tuinual meeting of the Wanganui Met ropolitan Kugoy Union last night by Mr. .J. Moye, an ex-president. Jt was referred to the executive with instructions to circularise clubs in explanatory fashion and call a special general meeting at a later date. I n brief, this is what Mr. Moye sug jested:—■ ) That Wanganui and Kangilikei club teams oe embraced in t..e one competition. <2i Tuat tin* first round (each team meets each learn once; be a grading round and at its close Ihe Fixtures Committee classify the teams into A and B grades. 1 •’> i That points lor the championahip start with the second round (earn team in the A grade meeting each team in that giade and similarly lor the B >. if) That, the winner of the A grade and the winner ot tne B grade play oit for the championship. Mr. Moye said that his .-ih.me would be covered by travelling expenses amounting io approximately £4O, to be raised as follows: XL 10s per rlub. £l3 10s from the Aletropolitan Union and £6 10s from the Rangitikei l I hi. He said that more matches would be played in the country union, and the better teams in the second round with get pride of place on Spriggens Park. Its major advantage was ihat it would maintain interest in the compel it ion right through the season. L’he B giade ’ ould have something to plav for. u hi< ii was more than could be sa‘nl for most of the two graded com petit ions. The one aspect which was raised against the scheme was that perhaps the margin of superiority enjoyed by the A grade would be so great as to make the final match for the Cup, between the top A team and the top B team, too much of a one-sided affair. Messrs. Aloye and C. Danielson (president of Flie Metropolitan Union i were :»f opinion that the margin would not he great, however.
