CANTERBURY COLLEGE FOOTBALL CLUB The, rear .1936 is the year fixed for the jubilee of the Canterbury College Football Club. The dub existed in some form or other about the. year 1880, but it was not until the first fixture against Olago University, played on the Christ’s College ground on August 10. 1886, that the dub could properly be said to be definitely lOrmed. There are a number of those who took: part in this game still in New Zealand and it is hoped that they will nil attend the celebrations. Of the back division of the 1886 team. Marshall and Craddock have passed away, Web is a Christ College Bursar and Harden the New Zealand Government agent in Alelbourne. Pope and Beare are in New Zealand somewhere. The. team was captained by H. von Haast, the well-known Wellington banister and in his pack were two other Wpl lington lawvers, E. J’. Bunny and W. F. Ward. Louis Cohen, another forward. passed away in Wanganui a year or so ago; F. J. Alley, father of the All Black, crossed the last line only a few weeks ago. The others, David Jack. \V. 1). Bean. J. P. Grossman and F. ialbot. are all in the. land of the living. There ate not so many • survivors of tiie Otago University team of that day. but Dr. James Fitzgerald is still active, and it is hoped that he will be present when the others foregaihp>.
