CROSSING ACCIDENT
LORRY DRIVER INJURED. [ Per Press Association. ) AUCKLAND, Alarch 17. An iniurv, probably involving thff amputation of a foot, was sustained bv a lorry driver, Air. James Watts, in a' level crossing accident at Avondale. The lorry was being driven slowlv from the brickworks adjacent to the railwav at 10.50 a.m. An eye-witness said it seemed impossible that the injured man had seen the train approaching. The lorry travelled le«s than al a walking pace between the brickworks gate and the second set. nf rails about fifteen yards away. The impact was sufficient to force the heavy vehicle to turn a complete circle. The front portion, the engine and cab, was completely wrecked. Air. Watts, with his foot practically severed, was taken to lhe hospital in an ambulance. No one else was injured.
