ST. PATRICK’S DAY SPORTS. The big annual St. Patrick’s Day (sports meeting will be held on the Becireation Ground Taihape, to-morrow I (Thursday), commencing at 11 a.m., land indications point to a highly-suc-Iccsful fixture. The running events will include the 75, 100, 220, 440 and one mile handicaps, and a points prize will be given for the first three distances mentioned. The primary school boys’ 100 yards championship for the Herbert Smith Trust Cup will also figure on the programme, besides many children’s events and a special three-mile race for men. The cycle events include the one, two and three-mile handicaps, and a half-mile handicap for boys. The horse events comprise the maiden hunters’ jump, open hunters, maiden pony, open pony and leaping competition (steeplechase style). National dancing will figure largely on the programme this year. Provision has also been made for miscellaneous events, including golf [tutting. The Taihape District High School and the Convent School will be granted a whole holiday on account of the big sports meeting. Valuable trophies have been provided, and given fine weather the meeting should be nn unqualified success, and fully up to the high standard of previous years. A Paddy’s market will be hold ;n the Town Hall to-morrow night as a finale to the sports. BOWLING NOTES. KEESING CUP MATCH. successfully defended the Keesing Cup against a challenge from Ohakune during tho week-end, the score being 27—13 in favour of the holders. The teams were as follows:

Taihape: Ryan, Beckett, Easton, Seccombe. Ohakune: Lightband, Thoma-, Jiavler, Curran. GENERAL NEWS. A scooting match between D Company territorials and the R.S.A. was held on the Ohotu range during the week-end under service conditions. .303 rifles were used and all matches were decided at 25 yards range. The territorials scored a total of 708 points as against 661 registered by the R.S.A. Owing to the unsettled state of the weather, the tennis match arranged for last week-end between Taihane and Ohakune was not held.
