VINCENT MEETING

CUP WON OUTRIGHT PRESENTATION Ob’ TROPHY Au outstanding feature iu connection with tiie \ incent Jockey Club’s meeting lart .Saturday was the success attained by the South Island ownertrainer D. P. Wilson. He had three of his own horses at the meeting (Trivet, Maiy Pratt, and Surge;, started them once each day, and won five races out of the six starts and wae iu second place on the other occasion. Trivet and Surge won doubles and three victories were recorded on the final day. R. J. Mackie, who does nearly all the riding for the stable, was on the lot of them and came out the most successful jockey. Trivet’s success in the Loe’nella Cup added another stroke of luck. As she won the same lace last year, the £2O challenge ‘il\er cup, presented by Mr. Acton Adams, was won outright, the conditions being that it must be won twioj in succession or three times at intervals. Mary Pratt's win. in the Valley Hack Handicap gained for her owner a handsome cabinet of cutlery, so Wilson should long remember the trip. After the sixth race the presentation of cups a-id trophies took place. In audit iuu to tho>e already mentioned there was the JSaie Memorial Silver Cup, valued at £25 (to be won twice iu or three times at intervals) and a miniature, valued at buth won by Air. J. It. Brown witli Sung Boy; the Clare Memorial Challenge Gold Cup, valued at £3(10 (to be dun three times oa end or five times at intervals), and a miniature gold cup, valued at £l5, both won for the estate of the late K. W. Greenslade by Blazon; the New* leaf Trot Silver Challenge Cup (to be won twice on end or three times in succession), xvith miniature valued at £5, won by Mr. J. I*. Ilerliliv with Stalwart; and a £2O canteen of cutlery attached to the \’ incent Trott mg Stakes, won by Mr. I*. Gallagher with Ahureko. The bulk of the presentations w.ere carried out by Mr. K. S. Black, uf Dunedin, a well-known figure in Central Otago. When handing over the Lochella Cup he made reference to the origin of the event and spoke of the great finish. “If ever the old stand was to come down it would have crashed on this occasion,” declared Mr. Black. He said he had never heard such cheering. At the presentation there was a ratiivr amusing episode. The pra-i- -• ient’s wife, Mrs. K. Butcher, wished to i tie a bi ie ribbon round Trivet's neck, but the mare was on her toes and backed away at every approach. After some proiuptiugs from the crowd Mrs. Butcher rushed D. P. Wilson, the owner, and completed the bow round hi,-, neck and shoulders amidst a roar of laughter. Mr. Wilson then replied to the remarks concerning his great support to this and other country meet ON AWAPUNI TRACKS i ANNIVERSARY DAY HORSES. Reed) were companions over seven furlongs, and following an even start they kept together ah the way, finishing on terms in 1.34 5. McDonald) were associated in a round over (he hurdles. They started together but where Kitty flew the final obstacle, Treasure Hunt decided to flatten it before stepping daintily over the wreck.
