PATEA FIKE BRIGADE Members of the brigade received a visit from the Taranaki District Executive last Tuesday night. Captain Fitzwater presided. The president, Secretary Coad, thanked Captain Fitzwater for the welcome he had given the executive and gave ar. outline of the working of the association to date. Captain Fitzwater, at the conclusion, thanked the executive for their visit and said he was convinced such visits would do an immense good and he wished to •congratulate the president on his move. CHILDREN’S HEALTH CAMP Under the supervision of Mrs J. N. Anderson, a most successful shop day was held on Saturday in aid of the children’s health camp. Proceeds amounted to £9 7s 4d and stamps sold during the day to £1 12s. Mr and Mrs Haddow donated the proceeds of a morning picture matinee, £1 5s 4d. Competition (box of chocolates No. 1) was won by -»Ir E. Kearse, and competition No. 2 was won by Mrs J. AnderBOWLING A match in the Taranaki Shield competition, between Patea and llawera No. 2, played at Patea, resulted in a win for Hawera by 20 points. PATEA MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB A most enjoyable dance was held by members of the Patea Miniature- Rifle Club in the Foresters’ Hall on Friday evening last, some fifty couples taking the floor. The club funds will benefit by approximately £5. During the evening trophies won during the year were presented by His Worship the Mayor (Mr Ramsbottoxn). Rifleman N. R. Coad, on behalf of the club, in a brief speech, thanked His Worship tic Mayor for being present, donors of trophies, and all who had assisted to make the dance such a success. Following the presentation nf trophies a dainty supper was served. The music was in the capable hands nf Messrs A. Gilmour and A. Carey. Extras were played by Miss J. Carey. Novelty dances were won by Miss E. Willis and partner; Mrs Coad and partner, and Miss T. Partridge and partner. Winners of trophies were:—Championship Cup, Rifleman N. R. Coad; handicap shield, Rifleman M . Old: Mr Cooper’s trophy, Rifleman J. Mcßeth; President Bargrove’s trophy, Rifleman N. R. Coad; Mr McGregor’s trophy, Rifleman W. Old; Mr J. Cunningham s trophy. Rifleman J. Bates; iMr D. Quickenden’s trophy. Rifleman R. G. Vinten; Mr J. Bates’ trophy. Miss M. Coad; Mr Hamel’s trophy, Rifleman A. Bond; Mr Wainwright’s trophy, Rifleman J. Mcßeth; Mr Ramsbottom’s trophv, Rifleman T. Floyd; anonymous -Miss J. Carey (2) and R. Tucker. The club won two team cups. —Alton v. Patea, and Legion of Frontiersmen (Waverley v. Patea). Mr I. Fowler was the winner of the Black and White competition—total being £S 9s 7d.
