CLIFTON PUBLIC LIBRARY. A meeting of subscribers to the Clifton I’ublic Library was held in Bulls on Wednesday, when the following committee was re-elected: —Misses Ede and Flavcll, Mcsdames Escutt, Lundy and Earrer, and Messrs. Churchill, Rall'e, Rich and F. A. Holland. The report of the supervising committee for the year ending 30/6/35 read as follows: —“ Yg-ui- committee has pleasure in reporting that the library has shown progress under the new scheme of management, tho number of subscribers having increased from 22 to an average of 45. The committee, during its term of oilice, has assembled the books under the authors’ names, which are now marked on the shelves. The purchase of new books has been somewhat curtailed owing to the committee not knowing the amount of the income available from subscriptions, but this should present no- difficulties to the new committee. Sixty-six books were purchased, and 20 were presented by Airs. A. G. Bennett, of Alanaia, and seven by Airs. E. A. Holland, and thanks are due to those ladies for their kind gifts. Owing to the resignation of Airs. Hillier, the Town Board appointed Alias Broughton to the position of librarian. Their choice has been a happy one, for Miss Broughton has proved a courteous, obliging and helpful custodian of your literature. Mr. C. Al. Broughton was not available during the whole term, and his valuable counsel has been missed by the committee. In the past Air. Broughton did yeoman service for the library, and ’die thanks of ths subscribers are due to him for keeping the library going during some very lean times in its history. ATany of the subscribers availed themselves of the suggestion book and the committee regrets not being able to buy nil the books suggested, owing to certain circumstances prevailing.
