FOR BENSON TROPHY WANGANUI AND MASTERTON. SECOND CONTEST TODAY. The Wanganui Harrier Club representatives will met the Masterton Barrier Club to-day for the second ‘‘leg” of the Benson Gate Trophy contest. The first contest was held at Wanganui over the Bramwell course of six and a-quarter miles earlier in the season, and resulted in the Wanganui Club having a commanding lead of 98 points. The leading men in the Wanganui team on that occasion were Weller (Ist), Bourgeois (2ml), and K. John ston (sth). C. Talbot ami his brother, I). Talbot, were wdl to the lore and finished in third position (dead-heat-ing). As the Wanganui Club will not be represented in full force, and also that the Wairarapa men will be competing over their own course, the final issue for points, and aiuo for individual honours will be extremely close. As C. Weller is not making the journey, Wanganui’s main hopes for leading positions will fall on K. Johnston, A. Bourgeois, and G. Johnston, three consistent runners, who should finish fairly well together. A. Bevcge and A. Pemberthy are two who are evenly matched and will pace alor.-g very well together. Others likely to be in the Wanganui Club’s first twelve are A. Garfath, E. Gowan, N. Hopper, G. Hallam, IL Orr, and 11. Hopper, who, although he has not been running true to form lately, may create a surprise. C. Robins'is a runner who can be relied upon to fill a fairly prominent position, and as the local team is depleted a few surprises may be neccsFor the Masterton Club, the leading men are C. and D. Kiddle, Puriri Street, Castlecliff, at 2.30 p.m. Y.M.C.A. CLUB CONTEST AT MARTON Members of the Y.M.C.A. Harrier Cub will travel to Marton to-day to cqmpeto in a race against the Marton Harrier Club. A course of approximately 6J miles will be covered, the trail leading mostly over road. At the conclusion of the run members are to be entertained to afternoon tea, and will be guests at a dance tins evening. Members are requested to note that they are to assemble at the Post Ofliee at 1.2(1 p.m., when seats will then be allotted them.
