USE OF DIOMEDE FOR JAPANESE MISSION. ( Per Fresa Association. ) AUCKLAND, Aug. 26. Orders were received in Auckland today for the Diomede to leave Devonport naval base tomorrow for Wellington. where the cruiser was to arrive at 9.30 o’n Thursday morning. These instructions, however, were cancelled tonight It was learned 'that members of the Japanese goodwill mission at present in New Zealand have to be back in Australia early next. week. Before the orders were cancelled it was still uncertain whether they would be able to reach Sydney in time by the Wanganella, and if other means of transport failed it was believed that the Government, as a gesture of goodwill, would place the Diomede at the disposal of the mission for the trip.
