POLICE REQUEST REFUSED MAGISTRATE OPPOSES REMAND MERELY A “HOLD CHARGE’’ [By Telegraph -Press Association —Copyright! Received Aug. 23, 8.15 p.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 23. At the Central Police Court to-day the magistrate refused a police application for a further remand of Patrick Brady on a charge of forgery. Brady, accordingly, was discharged. The police prosecutor intimated ’that he was unable to obtain the attendance of witnesses. Air. Landa, who appeared for Brady, argued that the present charge was merely a “hold charge.’’ Another charge was pending against Brady in a higher Court. The magistrate said that it did nej seem fair to hold a charge over Brady’s head unless there was a tangible reason. The police could prosecute him again at a later stage if they so desired.
