Committee members and friends gathered at lire Town Hall supper-room last Thur.-day evening to bid farewell to Mrs. W. r. Ingley who leaves the district shortly. Entertainment was arranged in the form of a competition, each member wearing a hidden New Zealand town name, and the representations caused a great deal of merriment and showed ingenuity. Spring bulbs were arranged in large bowl.. round the room, while two easy iircs kept the winter atmosphere well outside. Mrs. Tngley was presented with a beautiful posy of violets on her arrival. Musical items were given by Mesdames 1. Jones, Sumich and G. Corbett, white Mrs. Ingley herself by special request sang one of her delightful songs. Airs. Haddow acted as accompaniste. At suppeitime, opportunity was taken by tht, president, Airs. R, AV. Haddow, to express the committee’s ami the whole branch’s regret at Airs. Ingley’s departure. She had been a staunch committee member almost ever since her arrival in Patea, and Patea was proud in the emissary of Plunkct work it was sending out to other parts in the person of Airs. Ingley. f?he asked Airs. Ingley to accept a beautiful salad bowl from the members as a mark of their esteem and with their good wishes. Airs. T. E. Roberts, former president, also spoke of Mrs. In gley’s good work in Pliinket. ways, and referred to the splendid manlier in which she had put the Plunket teaching into practice. Musical honours were accorded the guest of the evening who thanked tho members fur their appreciated gift and their very kind wishes. Apologies for noji-attendance wore received from Mesdames Pearce, Pettigrew, Petersen, Prescott, Stevens, Downey, Alisses Pearce and Harris. PATEA’S WHEELBARROW DERBY. A proposal to hold a wheelbarrow derby to assist the Patea Amateur Athletic Association and the Patea Municipal Band was submitted to supporters of those bodies by Air. J. U. Gunnison on Tuesday. Subject to the borough council’s approval the sugges tions will be carried into effect, !«• proposal being enthusiastically received. The drafting of the conditions governing the derby was completed and an early date freed. A handsome trophy was already in hand, it was stated. Appreciation of the assurances of support was expressed by the chairman, Air. Cunnison. Air. N. Gardiner was appointed secret ary.
