MANAWATU HUNT

POINT-TO-POINT STEEPLES WEDNESDAY’S RESULTS The Manawatu Hunt Club s annual point-to-point steeplechase meeting was ueld on Wednesday at Te Matai in line weather. Owing to tue large number of scratchings une of the events aad to be deleted, while iu two of them there were only three starters. Of the eight horses carded in the Manawatu Open Lightweight Steeplechase, five railed to figure, bue the held was built up to lour by the transfer of Rcyston Hom the Kiwitea Heavyweight event, the race which was deleted, slates the Standard. Cumetra was a strung fancy, but when running iu the leau with the former represeiituth e of the racing truck, Wuitaunaha, she struck the lop of tne post and rails to unship her owner-pilot. It is probable that a dog wiiicu raced across in front of her too x uer attention from, the fence. The mishap left Waitaunaha well clear, Petrarch having run oli at the brush, double at the end of tne first round. The latter set out alter Waitaunaha and Boystun after having negotiated the bru.?h doable, but the iusk was a hopelei-s’ouc, Waitaunaha winning hard held. Even allowing tor the face that his task was made easy by the misnups which befell hio most dangerous opponents, it was a good performance on the part of Waitaunaha when it is remembered that he is approaching his 13th birthday and won a steeplechase race at Tientht'n; as long ago as 1928. jin view of fuilhcoming events, it would have been interesting to see how the sister tu Sky rider would have fared had she not been put out of the running. Miss G. Hall, who prepared Ln Rinka tor tlie Ka.ranga Heavyweight Handicap, completed the day s activities by leading in another winner, Mangori, while Mr. I. Bradbury, who had scored on Waitaunaha, was again associated with the winner. La Rinka gave quite a good display of fencing and stayed on 100 wed lor Taneka, but Mangori was assisted to victory by Ngitu refusing at the post and rails wnen entering upon the final round. The latter lost several lengths thereby, and, although she gathered up Mangori quickly, the effort told in the concluding stages. Jat Rinka is by a Wilderness C'/it trOm that former good little mare Dainty Step ( Lucullus- -Adoption who won many good races during her career.
