FLANNAGAN CUP RACE DECLARATION OF HANDICAPS. The annual long distance opeu-water race for the Flannagan Cup will definitely be swum at New Plymouth tomorrow afternoon, it was decided on Wednesday night by a sub committee of the Taranaki Swimming Centre. The decision was made unanimously upon receipt of advice that five launches were available for patrolling the race, states the Taranaki Daily News. The event will be swum over the same course as in previous years from a point off Kawaroa Park across the end of Woolcombe Terrace and round a buoy to the finishing tape in the water at East End beach. There are seventeen starters, and handicaps have been declared by Messrs. K. J. Staunton and R. Clayton as follows: Scratch: C. J. Maclean (Fitzroy). J. Leslie (Inglewood), AV. B. Milne (New Plymouth). 30sec.: H. M. St. George (Waitara), G. Beaven (Hawera)), D. Burton. Imin.: D. Gayton (New Plymouth), A. Robson (Stratford). 3niin.: I. Jobson (Hawera). S. Spiers, R. Campbell. smin.: N. Chadwick (Hawera), V. Hellyar (Wanganui), L. Eddleston (East End), F. S. Jennings (Christchurch). 6min.: J. Ryan (Stratford), A. Smith (East End). lOmin.: Miss AV. Richardson (New Plymouth). Burton, Spiers and Campbell are all members of the Opunake Surf Lifesaving Chib, which this year is not. affiliated to the Taranaki Swimming Centre. It will be necessary for them to become active members of an affiliated club if they wish to compete.
